The first impression
Suction robots that can wipe and suck have been around for several years. But now there is a new type of device: suction robots, which offer a abrasion function as part of the wiping process, so that they can remove both fixed stains and surface dirt.
Ecovacs is the youngest brand to launch such a model: the Deebot X1 Omni, which has two rotating mop pads, which perform a scrubbing movement at 180 revolutions per minute to remove stubborn stains from hard floors. The Deebot X1 Omni can vacuum or wipe or perform both functions at the same time. The spot clean function can also be activated for particularly polluted areas, which makes it one of the most practical suction robots that have been tested to date.
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is supplied with a docking station with which the wiping pads can be cleaned and dried and the 80ml water tank emptied and refilled. The docking station also empties itself and can empty the contents of the 400ml dust container into an interchangeable 2.5 liter bag –, which means, that you can really let your hands off him when cleaning the floor.
The circular vacuum robot has a lidar scanner and an HD camera that help it find its way around the apartment. The latter can also be used to keep an eye on the home when you are not there – or, thanks to the microphone and the speaker, to calm your pets.
The Deebot X1 Omni takes a rational route when vacuuming and not just a random route. Thanks to the Wi-Fi connectivity, it can also be controlled via an app on the smartphone or via Ecovac’s own voice assistant YIKO, which is integrated in the Robovac.
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is one of the most expensive vacuum robots in the test. For those who want to completely outsource floor cleaning, including scrubbing hard floors, in our view, it is still worth the investment.
Like most suction robots on the market, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is circular and measures 10.4 × 36.2 × 36.2 cm. It is slightly larger than some other models on the market, but had no problem maneuvering between chair legs or under furniture at a short distance.
The silver-black Robovac has a plastic bumper that surrounds the upper half of the device and an HD camera that can be used to move around your home. However, he doesn’t just rely on the camera. There is a lidar sensor, a 7.9 cm wide and 2 cm high disc, which is located on the top of the device directly under the control button, and a height sensor. Thanks to this combination, the vacuum robot can clean up to three different levels in the apartment according to a logical pattern and still know exactly, where it is in the cleaning process – while avoiding falling down stairs.
The Deebot X1 Omni suction robot has four suction levels, three moisture levels and a 400 ml dust container, which is located under the robot cover. Unlike the iRobot Roomba J7 Plus or the Dreame Bot W10, for example, the lid cannot be opened here –, so you cannot simply lift a flap, but has to remove the entire lid. Inside the device there is also an 80ml water tank that is used for wiping.
If you turn the Deebot X1 Omni, you will find a swiveling wheel on the front and two additional wheels on both sides of the device, which will help the vacuum robot to find its way around the apartment. Just like with other suction robots, e.g. B. the Dreame Bot L10 Pro, the side wheels can also be lifted and lowered so that the Robovac can effectively clean a number of different surfaces.
As you would expect, there is also a brush that combines soft bristles with silicone lamellae to ensure that the dirt can be absorbed on all surfaces. In addition, there are two side brushes that are used to transport the dirt from the cracks into the working area of the device, as well as two removable wiper pads.
The scope of delivery also includes a docking station, which is used to charge and clean the wipe pads, to refill the water tank and to empty the dust container. It has two 4-liter tanks, one for fresh water and one for dirty water, and a 2.5-liter disposable dust bag, in which the dirt is automatically emptied from the dust container. There is even storage space for two additional wiper pads.
The docking station has three buttons with which the suction robot can be started or stopped; a cycle can also be started in which the wipe pads are cleaned, the water tank is refilled and the dust container is emptied. With the dimensions of 57.8 × 44.8 × 43 cm ( H × B × T ), however, the docking station is the largest that has ever been seen in a suction robot.
The cleaning performance
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is very easy to set up, although it is particularly gratifying that a simple step-by-step guide can be found on the cover of the base station, so you don’t have to roll the manual first.
At the lowest suction level, the suction robot also absorbs the last fine dust, biscuit crumbs and major soiling – including muesli – from hard floors. However, it turned out that the side brush on hard floors tended to spread the dirt further in the room, which means that the suction process takes a little longer than hoped.
The Deebot X1 Omni is also able to soak up most fine dust and major dirt on soft surfaces, although the stronger settings are required for a more thorough cleaning of carpets. It is impressive that the Deebot X1 can be set so that it automatically increases the suction power when it detects carpets, i.e. from the quiet level one to the maximum level or Max +.
Thanks to the lidar sensor and the camera, the Deebot X1 is systematic when vacuuming and wiping. This combination ensures that the suction robot does not hit furniture. However, it looks different when it comes to avoiding obstacles that stand in his way. The robot tried to suck up both a charging cable and a wool sock. In addition, the Deebot X1 got stuck regularly when it changed from thick-pile carpets to hard floors, which means that you have to move the suction robot and restart the cleaning process.
As already mentioned, the wiping function is not only intended for damp floors. The Deebot X1 Omni is one of the few suction robots on the market that can also scrub. Therefore, this robot easily removed stubborn, dried stains such as Coca-Cola and coffee from hard floors as well as fresh dirt. Please note, however, that there is no way to adjust the scrubbing intensity, unlike e.g. B. with the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra.
It also turned out that the Robovac automatically returns to its docking station when it detects carpeting during cleaning, unless the wipe pads are removed.
The Deebot X1 Omni is not the quietest suction robot in the world. When cleaning hard floors, it reaches a maximum of 60 dB, with Max + up to 70 dB and on carpets a few decibels less.
It looks different when the suction robot carries out its own cleaning processes in the docking station. When emptying the dust containers in the docking station, only 72 dB was measured, when cleaning the wipe pads 62 dB.
The dust container can also be emptied manually –, however, as already mentioned, the lid must first be removed. After that, all you had to do was lift the handle and move the dust container directly into the trash can. It is particularly good that the handle keeps the dust container upright so that no residues can fall out.
The robot’s built-in camera can also be used to recognize people in its field of vision and to communicate with them. For testing purposes, it was very fascinating to see a live broadcast from the camera while the suction robot was making its rounds through the house. The sound is clear and clear via the microphone and loudspeaker and is also ideal for calming pets when you are not at home.
The interaction with the app
Like many apps for vacuum robots that are currently available, the Ecovacs app is user-friendly. As soon as the suction robot is connected to the WLAN, you have the choice of either calling up the cleaning menu or accessing the integrated camera.
During cleaning, the Deebot X1 Omni creates a map of the house, which can be divided into different rooms and zones. This makes it possible to limit yourself to certain rooms and not to clean the entire house. With the option of storing three different cards, this robot is ideal for multi-storey houses. He was also able to map the different levels, even if the docking station was not on them.
The cards can be displayed in both 3D and 2D and even allow the assignment of floor coverings and the addition of furniture such as TV stands or beds to the card.
Unlike many other suction robots, the Deebot X1 Omni cannot be controlled with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. For this, however, he has his own language assistant YIKO, with which one can control the cleaning of floors, rooms or around certain objects. In the test, YIKO –, which was developed in collaboration with Google, proved to be extremely responsive when it came to starting and stopping cleaning and adjusting the suction strength.
The app can also be used to change the suction strength of the Robovac and the water saturation of the wipe pads and to plan the cleaning.
According to Ecovacs, the Deebot X1 Omni lasts up to two hours and fifty minutes between two charges; however, it should be noted that this applies in quiet mode. At maximum performance, the suction robot made an hour and ten minutes before it had to be recharged. However, this was sufficient for a complete cleaning of a two-story house with three bedrooms.
The suction robot automatically returns to the docking station if the battery level is below 15. If the cleaning is not yet complete, he will continue to work as soon as the battery is fully charged. According to Ecovacs, the device will in future be equipped with the same intelligent continuous cleaning function that is also included in the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 + and that charges the battery so far, that the cleaning can be completed.
It takes about six and a half hours to fully charge the Deebot X1 Omni, and it was impressive that the battery level was clearly displayed with a percentage when the app was started.
The new one Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni suction and wiping robots with suction station is a powerful suction robot that absorbs both light dust and larger dirt and at the same time removes stuck dirt from hard floors.
The docking station is chunky, but takes care of cleaning the mopads, emptying the dust container and filling the water tank. The Deebot X1 Omni is not as smart as some competing products. He plows through obstacles such as charging cables and socks instead of bypassing them, and he is also quite expensive. Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly one of the best suction robots we have ever tested.
